“I went to high school with Beth,” says Tina Spencer. Over the years, they fell out of touch until Tina ran into BPI’s owner, Beth A. Marsh, at the nail salon.
“She asked me what are you doing these days? And I told her I was an accountant,” Tina recalls. “Then she says, ‘would you be interested in coming to work for me?’”
That was in 2007, and today Tina has risen to become Accounting Manager at Bookkeeping Plus. But she never had a single bookkeeping class at Greenfield Central High. While working for a local car dealership, though, she discovered she enjoyed data tracking in what was then a ledger system.
After high school, Tina joined a manufacturing firm, who recognized her talent and offered to help pay her tuition for the accounting program at Indiana Wesleyan University. She finished her B.A. while working full-time, and stayed with the firm until they were acquired by another entity. Other accounting jobs followed, eventually leading to that fateful meeting in the nail salon.
After hours, Tina, who was a Girl Scout in childhood, enjoys volunteering her time with the local organization. On weekends, she and the family—husband, three kids, two dogs and cats—head for the great outdoors for camping and fishing. “You would be amazed at how many of my clients here at BPI love to talk fishing with me,” she says.
