If you saw Kathy Pershing behind her desk at BPI, you would never guess that she is a weekend hot-rodder. As Office Manager at Bookkeeping Plus, she is the consummate professional.
Every day, Kathy juggles the multitude of duties that keep the place running. But get her on the dragstrip, and she opens it up in her (peach-colored!) 1940 Nash.
The hot-rod hobby started years ago as a way for Kathy and her husband to let off some steam after long days of operating their food-broker business. It was there that Kathy learned the entrepreneurial skills that serve her well in her capacity as the indispensable alter-ego to BPI owner Beth A. Marsh.
Three months after joining BPI in 2005, Kathy was promoted to Office Manager. Her skill set ranges from human resources to facilities management to everything administration-related you can think of. But she considers one of her best talents to be that of being a great listener.
“Years ago, I worked as a bank teller, and I discovered that customers want to talk and tell you their story,” she remembers. “Listening is how you establish rapport and trust with both employees and customers, and it’s how you find out how best to serve them.”
Brandywine Cruisers Car Club that Kathy and her husband co-founded also allows her to give back to the community. Their annual “Auto-Fest” is a key fundraiser for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Hancock County. She also enjoys gardening and spending time with the grandkids. The
Retirement is not in Kathy’s future, probably ever. She’s just too busy and just plain movin’ too fast.
