If you want to know why Jennifer Brown is so good at her job, do the math. After all, math is her favorite subject, and she enrolled as a student at Ball State University intending to teach it.
But she eventually found her way to accounting courses. “With accounting, I get to use my love of mathematics,” Jennifer says, “in ways that help me solve the puzzles that are often posed by accounting problems.” She also enjoys developing an expertise with the standards and tools that govern accounting.
A native of Indianapolis, Jennifer became a management trainee after getting her bachelor’s degree at BSU. She followed that with stints in small business and at a major athletic apparel distributor, before joining BPI in 2005.
Athletics is a major focus in the Brown household. Jennifer, a former BSU Cardette, is the assistant gymnastics coach for the high school team and also teaches gymnastics at a local gym. She runs several half-marathons every year. Husband Dan (also an accountant) is an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. Both kids are in year-round school sports.
AT BPI, Jennifer found success early. She now manages the profit/nonprofit department and the payroll department, where she stays on top of the ever-changing payroll laws. In addition, as head of accounting operations and as the resident QuickBooks expert, she also stays current on software changes. She works closely with new clients as they make the transition to Bookkeeping Plus.
Jennifer enjoys being able to guide her staff to discovering the solutions to problems themselves, and in turn loves having them to bounce ideas off. That’s part of the fun of it, she says, which is why accounting really adds up for her.
