In 2017, Bookkeeping Plus celebrates 30 years of providing accounting services in Greenfield, Indiana. In the first installment of our two-part series, here is our story.
Before I was even in high school, I knew I wanted to be an accountant. I went to college and got a business and accounting degree, graduating in 1987 with the hope that I could get a job doing what I loved. In my wildest dreams, I could never have imagined the exciting road ahead.
My first professional job was with an auto parts store. Not long after, a dear friend gave me a referral to someone who needed some bookkeeping. I worked from a desk at my parents’ house, gradually picking up more clients. My mom was my first employee, and to this day my dad is my greatest goodwill ambassador. Ever since he retired, he has been my part-time document delivery driver, going on 8 years now.
I saved my pennies, eventually buying a house that gave me room for several more employees. The frugality and hard work paid off, and in 2006 I built the office building we now occupy in Greenfield.
Along the way, we expanded our range of services and learned new fields of accounting as the market for our services grew and changed. We built an addition to the office in 2012, and today we have some 20 staff members occupying 7,000 square feet.
I credit my staff for every bit of our success, because it is their loyalty and dedication—and their commitment to great customer service—that has enabled Bookkeeping Plus to build an outstanding reputation. I strive every day to return their loyalty and to show them how much I appreciate them. We share a love of accounting and a desire to be the best at what we do.
By any measure, three decades is a long time to be in this business. And by any measure, I have been truly blessed. I hope to continue being of service to my clients and my employees for many years to come. Stay tuned for Part 2 of my retrospective as Bookkeeping Plus celebrates its 30th anniversary. —Beth A.
